Oren's Report in…finally
-Suzanne had an Ambien on the flight and slept through her Hindu meal, and then she felt really queasy and decided to take some stomach medicine right before we got off the plane in Israel, which made her sleepy again. She was half asleep when she decided to renounce her American citizenship and become Israeli, ok, maybe not this last part. Between this and another experience, she decided Ambien sucks…
-My sister, brother-n-law, and niece came to the kibbutz today for the night. We went to the Jordan river to show Suzanne the Christians baptizing themselves. The Kibbutz owns a major tourist spot for it. Jesus was baptized here and supposedly walked over the water there too. (Pictures to come with the white robed people in the filthy water)
-Tonight we had a barbeque with lots of family. It was great and I think I ate a pound of chicken and lots of other good natural Israeli foods like hummus, tahini, red cabbage salad, Israeli salad, eggplant, wine, 'chips' or home made French fries, rice, and then tea made with herbs from the garden. Not that everyone is perfect here, there are plenty of good junk foods and sweets (like the chocolate spread on Pita Suzanne had at breakfast).
-Suzanne and I are taking Ulpan, Hebrew word meaning language classes. We have been staying at this place called Beit Canada in Jerusalem, which is an absorption center. It is not the prettiest of rooms, but it is free initially. I negotiated a nice place in a decent neighborhood in Jerusalem for us to rent starting October 15th, maybe sooner. It is getting remodeled right now. Real Estate is scarce in Jerusalem, and it is not cheap. At then end of the day we will pay a little less than the rent in Dallas that we paid and the place might be slightly nicer. The bad part is we need to buy lots of stuff to make it as nice because places come with nothing inside generally. Appliances, furniture, etc….
That is all for now, I promise pictures on dotphoto.com soon and on here. Use the link on the right to see lots of pictures soon or here for a few…
